The shooter at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown was described by the media as “shy,” “socially awkward” & a “genius.” There’s privilege in an accused murderer being given a fuller backstory by the mainstream press with positive, or at least, complicating descriptions. I discussed this idea in a piece about the Aurora shooting earlier in 2012.
“Polite? He just SHOT seventeen people…. Handsome? He just shot seventeen people, the New York Daily News is writing him a dating profile…. Here’s how the Virginia Tech shooter was described:Asian.”
Hari Kondabolu basically says trenchant shit with great inflection.
Dave Chapelle: why terrorists won’t take black people as hostage (by makunduchi)
Louis CK discussing his theory on how white people came from another planet, and God’s reaction if he were to “come back.”
Tell me why I have had more debates about the insidious, disgraceful nature of rape jokes in the past week than I have my whole life. Why though. Really.

As an aside, I don’t hate all rape jokes. I don’t hate rape jokes made by rape victims. I don’t hate rape jokes making fun of rapists, their silent comrades, their laughing cohorts, or rape culture. This one:
“I need more rape jokes,” she shouted nasally before letting her fans in on what she called a comedy secret, that such jokes are actually not so ‘edgy’ after all. “Who’s going to complain about rape jokes? Rape victims?” she asked. “They barely even report rape.”
& this one are two examples.
